چکیده

We investigate the Mott transition using a cluster extension of dynamical mean field theory (DMFT). In the absence of frustration we find no evidence for a finite temperature Mott transition. Instead, in a frustrated model, we observe signatures of a finite temperature Mott critical point in agreement with experimental studies of kappa organics and with single-site DMFT. As the Mott transition is approached, a clear momentum dependence of the electron lifetime develops on the Fermi surface with the formation of cold regions along the diagonal direction of the Brillouin zone. Furthermore, the variation of the effective mass is no longer equal to the inverse of the quasiparticle residue, as in DMFT, and is reduced approaching the Mott transition.

Multisite versus multiorbital Coulomb correlations studied within finite-temperature exact diagonalization dynamical mean-field theory

The influence of short-range Coulomb correlations on the Mott transition in the single-band Hubbard model at half filling is studied within cellular dynamical mean-field theory for square and triangular lattices. Finitetemperature exact diagonalization is used to investigate correlations within two-, three-, and four-site clusters. Transforming the nonlocal self-energy from a site basis to a mo...

Hidden critical point scenario of the Mott transition in two dimensions: Variational plaquette study

The phase diagram for the Mott transition in the two-dimensional Hubbard model is studied using the variational cluster approximation. Antiferromagnetic short-range correlations are found to substantially affect the competition between the metallic and the insulating state. Opposed to dynamical mean-field theory, the transition turns out to be discontinuous even at zero temperature although a c...

Absence of spin liquid in non-frustrated correlated systems

The question of the existence of a spin liquid state in the half-filled Hubbard model on the honeycomb (aka graphene) lattice is revisited. The Variational Cluster Approximation (VCA), the Cluster Dynamical Mean Field Theory (CDMFT) and the Cluster Dynamical Impurity Approximation (CDIA) are applied to various cluster systems. Assuming that the spin liquid phase coincides with the Mott insulati...

Cluster dynamical mean field theory of the Mott transition.

We address the nature of the Mott transition in the Hubbard model at half-filling using cluster dynamical mean field theory (DMFT). We compare cluster-DMFT results with those of single-site DMFT. We show that inclusion of the short-range correlations on top of the on-site correlations does not change the order of the transition between the paramagnetic metal and the paramagnetic Mott insulator,...

Dimensional-crossover-driven Mott transition in the frustrated Hubbard model.

We study the Mott transition in a frustrated Hubbard model with next-nearest neighbor hopping at half-filling. The interplay between interaction, dimensionality, and geometric frustration closes the one-dimensional Mott gap and gives rise to a metallic phase with Fermi surface pockets. We argue that they emerge as a consequence of remnant one-dimensional umklapp scattering at the momenta with v...
